Seoul and Jeju 2018 – The Start

While we have been contemplating going to Korea for this year’s holiday, we only started planning and booking during the end of April. There were dates to work around based on the school holidays and Yining’s enrichment classes.

We finally ended up with a flight on Scoot with 1 hour stop over at Taipei. The flight was delayed for 1 hour in Singapore, so the whole leg was delayed. That sort of screwed up the plans a little at Incheon.

We landed in Incheon at almost 10pm and after custom clearance, we missed the last airport limousine bus and train. My original intention was to take a train to Seoul station and take a cab to the AirBNB apartment we stayed at. The cab fare in Seoul can be quite expensive because of the distance. Incheon to my apartments is about 70km. And because we missed the bus and train, we had to take the cab all the way to the apartment. The fare came up to KRW 80,000 which is 99 buck in SGD. The consolation is that the cab took us all the way to the main door of the apartment. Yining managed to get some sleep on the cab.

The apartment I got is called YaJi’s Place. I chose this apartment because of the next day activity at Lotte World. After the late night arrival, I didn’t want to have to travel too far. This place was a 10mins walk from Lotte World. As it was late, I didn’t get to meet YaJi. She sent me instructions with pictures detailing how to get into the building and the apartment.

And here we are. This unit is a loft, which got Yining very excited. It’s a children’s thing right? 🙂

The apartment had simple but functional furnishing. Other than the sleeping space on the loft, there was another day bed at the lower level. It’s comfortable straight away at first look. The only problem I had was figuring out all the appliances because the descriptions were in Korean. But that was really a very small problem.

The amazing thing about this place is the surrounding local community. On the 2nd night I took a walk around and found cafes and restaurants in close proximity. I had originally thought that this was a typical residential area. This can be a nice place to stay for an extended period to have a feel of the local life.

It was late when we arrived, but we could still see Lotte World on the other side. So it was like description in the AirBNB app. We only fully appreciated the view the next morning. Tada! Lotte World right opposite!

The view at night was even better.

Fun fact. It’s only when we checked out when we discovered something.

This apartment sits in the same building with a postnatal care centre. 🙂

The way to Lotte World on the next morning was a relaxed one. Temperature was about 19 degree celsius and it was literally a walk in the park. We walked around Seok Chon Lake to get to Lotte World. It was bees and flowers along the way.

Great start for the day made up for the chaos the previous night. And we are off to Lotte World!
